Girls State and “Blue Star Banner Girls”

Attachment-1 (3)American Legion Auxiliary Unit 146 Oceanside Girls State delegates returned from their week with wonderfull stories and lifelong friendships.  The week began with meeting so many girls it was a bit overwhelming, but as they were grouped together they quickly fell into common ground.

Two of our delegates, Emma Thomas of Fallbrook High School and Yulanni Osinowo from Oceanside High School were “Blue Star Banner Girls”, a Girls State program for delegates with family members currently serving in the the military.  They worked on a presentation and presented it at the closing ceremonies to all the Girls State citizens and faculty. Our very own Yulanni Osinowo was presented with the Blue Star Banner $1000.00 Scholarship by Past National President of the American Legion Auxiliary and GSAF Board Member Nancy Brown Park.11033720_850925681651032_8668606943754183018_n

Oceanside Honors Girls State Delegates

IMG_0123California Girls State is a leadership program of the American Legion Auxiliary designed to increase awareness and knowledge of governmental processes while learning about the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship. Delegates come away with a greater appreciation of the American Flag and of the sacrifices made by our veterans. While at Girls State, they make friends with outstanding girls from around the state and have a fun week they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. California Girls State is a program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Department of California. IMG_0129

Poppy Proclamation

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 146 was honored on April 22, 2015 at the City of Oceanside City Council meeting when Mayor Jim Woods declared May as Poppy Month in the City.  Poppy chairman Suzanne Brewer accepted the award and explained a little about the POPPY also know as the Remembrance Flower for the American Legion Auxiliary.  While you might see the Auxiliary passing out poppies to all those who would like one we DO NOT SELL them.  We do welcome DONATIONS  for our poppy with all of the money collected going in a reserve account to be used only for the Rehabilitation of our Veterans and their families.DSCN3648
